Homework: 08/09 or 08/10, Due 08/13 or 08/14

10th Grade: Read the assigned article (“What I Really Want is Someone Rolling Around in the Text”) & complete the included directions. (DUE MON 08/13)

  • Carefully Read & fully annotate the article
  • After you are done reading and annotating, please complete the following:

    1)   In 1-2 COMPLETE SENTENCES explain the main idea of the article?

    2)   Circle all of the unfamiliar words in the article; in the margins attempt to define the words based on the context of the article. (Do not use a dictionary).

    3)   From the words that you circled in the article, selected the one that you believe to be the most important. Complete the attached circle map for this one word.

 

11th Grade: Read something, anything & pick out two unfamiliar words that are important. Complete the circle map handout for each word. (DUE MON 08/13 for periods 1, 3, 5 & TUE 08/14 for periods 4, 6)

  • Context Sentence = the sentence you found the word in
  • your Definition= what you believe the definition of the word to be based on the CONTEXT of its sentence.
  • Part of Speech = Check out these two websites for a refresher Website one; Website two.
  • Personal Connection = how you can relate to this word; have you experienced the meaning of this word before; how might you encounter or use it in the future, etc.
  • Illustration = make a visual representation of the word
  • Personal Sentence = write your own complete, correct sentence using the word, showing that you know its meaning
  • Answer the following two questions: 1) Why is the information in your map important? 2) Why do you think the author choose this word? Why this one instead of another?

PAST HOMEWORK EVERYONE SHOULD HAVE COMPLETED BY NOW:
